The Arklow branch of the Pioneer Association is a spiritual movement dedicated to promote devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was founded by Fr. James Cullen S.J. in 1898 for the purpose of encouraging sobriety and temperance. The three main obligations of membership are:
- To abstain for life (or a given period from all alcoholic drink.)
- To wear the membership badge publicly.
- To recite the pioneer prayer twice daily.
Leisure activities are provided for members in the form of quizzes, talent shows and socials.
