Active Retirement Association

The primary objective of this association is the organization of leisure and social events of its members. They organize regular outings and meet weekly in Árus Lorcáin for indoor bowls.
Also they hold a weekly drop in centre in Árus Lorcáin where you can call in for a cup of tea and access information.
There is also a monthly meeting on the first Wednesday from 3pm to 4pm



Apostolic Work Ireland

The Association is connected to the Sacred Congregation for the Evangelization of People. Our objects are to share in the missionary work of the Church by supplying materials and finance for churches who are not fully established. The association is composed of active and honorary members.

They meet Thursday from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. during school term for the purpose of making vestments, altar linen etc.

Arklow Male Voice Choir

The Male Voice Choir sing at the 11.30 a.m. Mass each Sunday and at special Liturgical functions throughout the year.

Arklow Youth Choir

The Arklow Youth Choir was formed almost 22 years ago. The choir sings each Sunday morning at the 12 p.m. Family Mass and also at the various Church Services during the year. Membership of the choir is made up of girls from primary and post primary schools in the parish. Choir rehearsals take place each Friday evening from 7 – 7.45 p.m. in Árus Lorcáin, Castlepark. New members are always welcome.

Cantors

The role of Cantors singing at Masses and Special Ceremonies is to lead the congregation in the singing of hymns and responses. The Cantors sing at some of the week-end Masses and during the Christmas and Easter Ceremonies. New Cantors are always welcome.

Catholic Guides of Ireland

CGI’s mission is to: Provide a challenging Guiding programme within a safe environment to enable all girls and young women to develop their full potential, in order that they become responsible citizens at community, national and world level. CGI is set up so that a young girl may enter the association at 5 years of age and work her way through the different sections – as follows.

Knights of St. Columbanus

We are an order of Catholic Laymen dedicated to the service of Christ in daily life, in the workplace, the marketplace, in city, urban and provincial areas.

We welcome into our ranks Catholic men, in full communion with the Church, who would wish to bring the service of Christ, their talents and skills towards the promotion of Christian values and principles in Society for the greater honour and glory of God the Father.

Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is an association of Catholic lay men and women who do voluntary work, sanctioned by the parish priest. The Legion was founded by Frank Duff in Dublin in 1921. We started in 1978.

Our weekly meetings are held in Árus Lorcáin on Monday evenings at 8.00 p.m. Our members carry out a variety of works, mainly delivery of Irish Catholic papers etc. Work obligation is two hours per week and is always done in pairs.

The Legion of Mary in Johnstown meet every Thursday night in the May Byrne Trust House, Coolgreany at 7.30 p.m.

An hour of prayer for different intentions takes place on a regular basis.



Pioneer Total Abstinence Association

The Arklow branch of the Pioneer Association is a spiritual movement dedicated to promote devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was founded by Fr. James Cullen S.J. in 1898 for the purpose of encouraging sobriety and temperance. The three main obligations of membership are:

  1. To abstain for life (or a given period from all alcoholic drink.)
  2. To wear the membership badge publicly.
  3. To recite the pioneer prayer twice daily.

Leisure activities are provided for members in the form of quizzes, talent shows and socials.

Prayer Groups

The Prayer Groups in the Parish who meet regularly to pray together:

Our lady Queen of Peace Prayer Group pray the Rosary for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life and for the conversion of sinners.
They meet at 8 pm every Friday night in Árus Lorcáin. For more information contact Christine Doyle.

The Frank Duff Prayer Group meet to pray for the canonisation of Frank Duff, Edel Quinn and Alfie Lambe. (Legion of Mary).

St. Joseph’s Young Priests Association

St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society is a lay Catholic organisation to promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
The meetings are monthly in the Árus Lorcáin after 10 a.m. Mass on each 1st Friday.We undertake to pray daily for an increase in vocations.
Financial help is given to students studying for the priesthood in Ireland, but, owing to their small numbers, aid is now given to students in Africa and India. We would be very glad of some new members.

St. Vincent de Paul

An outreach to those in need. The conference takes responsibility for the poor in the area and addresses various needs stemming from social problems and deprivation.

The Conference of St. Peter, Arklow meet on Tuesdays at 7.30 p.m.

Vincent’s Upper Main Street, Arklow, Co. Wiclow
Is the good as new clothes shop run by the St. Vincent de Paul Society. All proceeds go to alleviate the disadvantaged in the diocese. They accept good as new clothes, small items of furniture and bric-a-brac.

The Revival Gospel Choir

The Arklow Revival Gospel Choir is open to all denominations and sings at local churches and venues by arrangement. They rehearse every Thursday night in Árus Lorcáin from 8 to 10 p.m. New members are always welcome, both male and female.
